Tasks and reminders

Promote a checkbox into a real task with a due date and a priority, and get reminded without leaving your notes.

SILONotes does not keep a separate to-do list, because separate to-do lists go stale. A task is a checkbox in one of your notes that you have promoted. The Task Cockpit is a view over all of them, and editing a task edits the note it lives in.

Making a task

There are three routes in, and they all end in the same place:

  • From a note. Right-click any checkbox and choose Make task…, or use the Task button in the formatting toolbar.
  • From the cockpit. The + button opens a rapid-entry field. Type a task, press Enter, keep going. These land in a note called Quick Tasks in your default SILO.
  • From the block actions menu, which has a task option alongside copy, move and delete.
Rapid entry: type, Enter, repeat.
Quick Tasks is a real note
Tasks added from the cockpit go into a note so they sync, back up and search like everything else. It is locked so it cannot be deleted by accident, but deleting it would take those tasks with it.

Due dates, priorities and My Day

Hover a task row (or tap it on the phone) and you get Add to My Day, Show context from the note, Snooze / edit, and Set due. The full dialog handles the due date and time, the priority, and pinning to the top of a bucket.

One dialog for date, time, priority and pin.

Tasks then fall into buckets automatically: My Day for what you have chosen for today, Next 7 days for what is coming, and Someday for everything without a date.

Reminders

Any note can carry a reminder, set from the bell button in the note header. Recurrence can be once, daily, weekly or monthly, and you can pick the notification sound.

Android needs two permissions to be reliable
SILONotes asks for the exact-alarm permission, and offers to exempt itself from battery optimisation. Android delays or drops alarms for apps it has put to sleep, so if reminders arrive late, check both of these in Settings ▸ Notifications.
Reminder sound and volume on Android
Reminders play through a notification channel configured for media volume, so they are audible even with the ringer down. Changing the sound creates a new channel, which is why the setting takes effect on the next reminder rather than retroactively.

A morning digest can summarise what is due that day. Switch it on with the bell button at the top of the cockpit.

Nothing. It clears the task flag so the row leaves the cockpit, while the checkbox and its text stay exactly as written in the note. Remove task behaves the same way. If you want the text gone, delete the block in the note.
