Working in more than one note

Split the desktop editor into up to four panes and work across notes side by side.

The desktop editor can be split into up to four panes, each holding a different note. It is the fastest way to copy between notes, keep a reference open while you write, or compare two drafts.

Split view has no equivalent on the phone, where there is not enough room for it to help.

Choosing a layout

  1. 1Click the Split view button above the note list.
  2. 2Pick a layout: Single pane, Two columns (side by side), Two rows (stacked), One + two, or Quadrant (2×2).
  3. 3Click an empty pane to make it active, then click a note in the list to open it there.
  4. 4Drag the divider between panes to resize them.

Shortcuts

Ctrl/Cmd+\Open a new pane beside the active one
Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+\Zoom the active pane to full size, and back again
Alt+1 … Alt+4Jump to pane 1 through 4
Collapse the note list for more room
The « button collapses the note list to a narrow rail, which gives the panes noticeably more width on a laptop screen.
